Jason Troy Pitts, 37, of North Kentville was scheduled to enter pleas to 24 charges in Kentville provincial court Monday. His case, dating back almost two years, has been delayed several times because Pitts has repeatedly appeared without a lawyer or requested a new one. The accused was first charged in March with manufacturing child pornography and conspiring with other online users to commit sexual assault on a child in Kentville between June 18, , and Sept. Other charges have been added since the first ones were laid.
Working with the Canadian Police Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, police were later able to locate a young child believed to be the victim. They have not revealed the gender or age of the child. Legal aid lawyer Brian Vardigans, who had been representing Pitts, told Judge Alan Tufts that his client has dropped him from the case. But Pitts notified him late last week that he wanted another lawyer. The judge told him he would have to appeal to legal aid for another lawyer or work through his differences with Vardigans.
Tufts adjourned the case to Sept.
