Early Church History Timeline This early church history timeline, in my opinion, addresses issues that ought to be of concern to all Christians. How are we to do that if we don’t know what that faith is? Most Protestants will claim that the historic Christian faith can be determined from the Bible, but a simple comparison of the multitude of doctrines taught by Protestants makes it clear this is not true. The terrible result of this is that early church history is left far too often to the revisionist history of the Roman Catholics. The world is in desperate need of a testimony like that of the apostles and their churches! Fortunately, numerous writings have been left to us from all periods of the church, even the earliest, and it is not difficult to determine what was important to the churches the apostles started. Further, as we see doctrines introduced at later periods into the teaching of the churches, we can conclude that those doctrines are not apostolic. After the reign of Constantine and the first general council of the church at Nicea , two very significant events occurred. One, the churches now had an official means to decree doctrine. Doctrines that were universal in the church before that time were very likely to have come from a common source, the apostles, because there was no hierarchy to establish new doctrines universally.

With the power of God behind me, I have finally le Friday, November 20, With the power of God behind me, I have finally left this legalistic “cult” like system, after spending nearly half of my life there. I offer up daily thanks to have gotten “outtathere” with my brain still intact. I’ve been told that using the word “cult” is an extreme choice of words, yet it is the most obvious and self explanatory. I am sure that the many OALC’ers who read this will take offense to this statement and that is fine with me.

Please read Acts Chapter 2. By defnition it is the fiftieth day after Passover. It started out as a Jewish holiday and was adopted by Christians. Depending upon what church you belong to, the significance varies.. Pentecost is not a Jewish Holiday. It is an offshoot of the Jewish holy day Shavuot.. Shavuot, which means “weeks” in Hebrew, is due to the conclusion of the ritual of counting of omer.
It incidentally falls on fifty days after Passover on the Jewish calendar.. Due to the occurance of the events documented in the Christian book of Acts among a group of Christians who incidentally gathered during Shavuot, the day gained significance for those events rather than the significance of the ritual of omer counting. Those events led to the spiritual empowerment of Christians to practice and spread their religion in the midst of Roman persecution..
Literature written in Greek thus gave the Greek name Pentecost for that day as it occurs fifty days after Passover.. Early Christianity had sought to distance itself away from Judaism like shifting the sabbath to Sunday and moving Easter away from Passover. Therefore, Pentecost is no longer celebrated on the same day as Shavuot. Rather it is celebrated on the Sunday, forty-nine days after Easter Sunday..

While it shares beliefs with other evangelical Christian sects, it offers distinguishing tenets as well. Here are three beliefs that set Apostolics apart from other Christians: The Ministry of Apostles and Prophets: Apostles and prophets arose before the existence of church buildings and Christianity was mainly a wandering religion. These individuals were chosen by Jesus Christ and were tasked with building the foundation of the Christian Church.
Other denominations believe once this foundation was set, apostles and prophets were no longer needed. Some apostles were spiritual guides, meaning they just did not just receive the office but also the ‘gift’ of apostleship. In their viewpoint, people who exhibit the same spiritual abilities in modern times are also apostles and should receive the title and guide others to better faith. The speaking of tongues occurs when words are granted to the believer by God in a language unknown to them.
The believer speaks the foreign words out loud in a message directly from God. Most Christian churches consider this a gift and a miracle, but do not make it a requirement for salvation.

The popes very often delegated to others the power to give this blessing in answer to petitions from princes, at the close of missions, and on such occasions. This power was restricted by Clement XIII, 3 September, , to patriarchs, primates, archbishops, and bishops, who petition the Apostolic See for it; they can give the Apostolic blessing on Easter Sunday and on some other feasts. Prelates who have the use of the pontificalia and jurisdiction over a certain territory can give it only once a year.
A certain formula is prescribed. The superiors of certain religious orders, especially the Franciscans, can give it twice a year in the churches of their own order; they must use a formula and ask permission of the ordinary 30 August, The faculty is occasionally granted to particular priests, regular or secular, to give the Apostolic blessing upon return from Rome, at the close of missions or retreats ; in this case no solemn rite is required.
“The Foundation of Fasting” is the second segment in the Foundations for Growing series. Our key verses for this study are found in Luke –48, with the continued focus being “ founded upon a rock.”.
Our key verses for this study are found in Luke 6: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: Why Should I Fast? We learn and receive direction by reading the Word of God. The Bible provides examples for us to apply in our day-to-day living. In the New Testament, fasting was a part of everyday life: Fasting is how we humble ourselves before God—it 1 acknowledges His greatness, and 2 it acknowledges our own limitations.
At a high level, we can view fasting as the way we discipline our body our flesh toward God.
